Establishment of the Plant Genome Research Center

NCKU has been committed to promoting the application of bioinformatics in biological and medical research for many years, such as rice genome research, core national projects of applied genome bioinformatics, etc. At present, there has been good development, but the fly in the ointment is that the study of plant genomes is seriously insufficient, which leads to the lack of application of biological information platforms. Therefore, the establishment of the Plant Genome Center will help solve this gap and accelerate the development of plant science. Research can also provide a more complete database for search and application for the research and development of Chinese herbal medicines related to medicine.

Development of internationally competitive teaching and research institutes

Cooperate with the resources and teachers of the School of Biological Sciences, build a database of various tropical plant sciences, and teach basic courses in plant development or plant biotechnology, and continue to cultivate forward-looking. We will work hard for innovative and cutting-edge biotechnology talents, hoping to develop a unique and distinctive research institute in the country.

Integrate NCKU resources and promote cooperation between teachers

Integrate resources and assist other teachers in the school to improve the quality of research through cooperation. Senior teachers assist new young teachers to engage in integrated research topics, give full play to the characteristics of the school's comprehensive university, organize cross-disciplinary research teams, and strive for large-scale research funding. Efforts should be made to develop the country's tropical plant science and train its technical talents.

Combining with the industry to cultivate high-level biotechnology talents

Through close contact with the teaching and research of the industry, the "Department of Life Sciences" has established cooperative relations with many manufacturers. Taking Orchid Biotechnology as an example, it regularly conducts academic exchanges with researchers from other schools and orchid industry every two months. Every year, regular results presentations are held in the Orchid Science Park, and it is expected to cooperate with more domestic and foreign biotechnology industries to develop related technology platforms with more industrial value.

The resource integration of academic research and industrial development

At present, southern Taiwan is still an important town for agricultural development. With the "Academia Sinica" stationed in the "Southern Science and Technology Industrial Park" to establish the "Academia Sinica Southern Biotechnology Project Center", there is also the Orchid Biotechnology Park led by the Tainan County Government. The research and development talents of Academia Sinica, combined with industry, government and academia, can provide Olympic aid for the research of "Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center", "Livestock Laboratory" and "Agricultural Improvement Field", especially for the agricultural upgrading of 300,000 farmers in Tainan, and " The upgrading of the high-tech industries of the 25 biochemical technology companies in the Southern Science and Industry Park and the more than 50 pharmaceutical factories in the county will definitely be of great help. The "Academia Sinica Biotechnology Experimental Center" will cooperate with "Chengdu University". The initial research projects will focus on plant preservation, plant resistance to adversity, plant molecular farms, and plant product transformation.

In the future, excellent strains will be developed. Transfer the mechanism to the industry, or guide and promote new strains to drive the development of Tainan's biotechnology industry. Therefore, the establishment of the Institute can provide a platform for resource integration. In addition to strengthening the scientific foundation of tropical plants, it also further provides relevant information on tropical plants, such as plants that are resistant to stress, effective plant secondary metabolites, related physiological and biochemical information, the basis of molecular regulation and so on.
